Day 44 / Tag 44, Tue. April 25. Divng Koh Phi Phi

Pick up is 10 minutes early, we collect other participants from resorts and drive to the longtail boat port at the river. The longtail taxis us to the dive boat waiting for us in deeper waters.

Longtailboat brings us to the Diveboat
Leaving Ao Nang, course Koh Phi Phi

Again, it's not a Kon Tiki boat, they had a propeller damage the day before,
hit the reef, ts ts ts, dive boats shouldn't do that...
This boat is run by Stingray Divers, SSI DiveShop, two of the staff recognize me, because their shop is just over the street from the noodle soup kitchen, where I waited out the rain yesterday.
This boat goes by the name of "Destiny"... If it has any sister ships, they would probably have names like
"Fate", "Karma", or "Kismet", huh?

First dive is at Maya Corner, close to the once famous, now notorious Maya Beach. That bay is filled up to the brim with daytrip speed boats.
There is a lot of movement underwater, surge and surf, welcome to swing diving again. We are four divers in the group, our guide is Fon, she takes it very nice and easy, goes really slow.

Somewhere I can take a shot of two of my favorites together: yellow boxfish and seal faced pufferfish
My two little friends

and the master of disguise, the Scorpionfish

Fon even finds a white one, so called Flasher Scorpionfish

We are drifting closer and closer towards the entrance of Maya Bay, the current gets stronger and stronger. At some point we have to turn against it and I have to work really hard. I hate fighting currents, really, I am a born Drifter...

After some surface time below in the shadow of the huge limestone rocks
Surface time at Koh Phi Phi

we take our second dive at Mushroom Rock, again a lot of surge underwater, swing diving...!
Both dives are rather shallow, the second buddy pair are OWD.

I meet two pretty big Hawksbill Turtles, and again many beautiful Nudibranchs.

Nudibranchs, Halgerda Bacalusia

Nudibranch, Jorunna Funebris

Two hours cruise back, after rinsing and packing my gear I chat with Fon, our guide, going through Fotos and videos, she helps me to identify the nudibranchs.
Fon, looking up the nudibranches for me

I must really get a set of these FishID cards.

At the hotel I clean all equipment thoroughly, want to have it bone dry for the flight to Borneo. Already booked 25 kg of luggage, but you never know.

Update trip log a bit, must still transfer 24 dives to the database, but I'm too lazy, have a pizza with white wine, and a Aloe Vera massage, before I go to sleep.
Tomorrow will be Ao Nang without diving, dry my stuff and drive around taking pictures. I can't complain...

See you under water
